As Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Games (MMORPGs) go, WAR, as it's known, is the hit of the year. Fight side by side with other online players as you "Enter a grim fantasy world where the armies of Order (Dwarfs, High Elves, and Empire) and Destruction (Greenskins, Dark Elves, and Chaos) collide to determine the fate of nations." It smites World of Warcraft. Just don't expect to see the recipient for about six months.

That's right. WAR has already been declared MMO of the year in the face of some tough competition by, not one, but numerous outlets, as well as being named a top 10 PC game and top 10 game of the year by GameSpy and Favorite New MMO of 2008 by Massively. Games Convention (Germany) keeps getting bigger and bigger every year, but no game had a bigger showing this year than WAR. It was a fantastic show for us, and to top things off, it was announced that Warhammer Online won Best Online Game at the show! WAR was praised in the announcement release for its "spectacular visuals, innovative play modi, neat control and an enormous, appealing fantasy world."

There were a lot of awesome games at E3 this year and we're very proud to say that Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning was chosen asX-Play's Best of E3: PC choice. Check out the full list of winners, including WAR, here.

IGN stopped by to visit Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning at the recent EA pre-E3 event. We let them go smashing through Troll Country and now they've posted their latest WAR preview which includes new video interview with Jeff & Paul, a bunch of game play footage, and a few new screens.

Twenty four race specific careers is quite a few for any game that focuses on more than just PvE. Many people have been curious to know how we manage it all and how WAR ended up with its 24 careers. Mythic's Adam Gershowitz sat down with Jon Wood from MMORPG.com and gave them the answers. So many that it needed two stories. He likes to talk.

If you haven't heard of Dreamhack, in Sweden, then you must have been hiding under a rock for the last few years. Dreamhack summer 2008 set the world record with 10,638 people in LAN. That beats the usual basement LAN party by a little. WAR was at the world's largest LAN party, and Mr. Paul Barnett was there to spread the good word. Recently, Michael Zenke from Massively.com stopped by the studio for a couple days of nothing but WAR. So far we've been pretty tight lipped about crafting, but now its time in the sun has come. Mark Jacobs has spilt the beans on what WAR's crafting system will entail and how it was developed and Gamespy was there to pick up those beans, just for you.

Jeff, Paul, and Josh along with Adam Gershowitz and Destin Bales, or "the WAR boys" as one site put it, got on the phone to answer some of the many questions that the devoted have been sending our way. Though the event was described as "controlled madness", "a touch unpredictable", and "chaotic fun Sprinkled with crack", there were still many great new questions answered, as well as some info to fill in the nooks and crannies so far unexplored in some of the more familiar topics. Last month, European press came from far and wide as WAR besieged Paris. They spent three days with WAR, which included an entire day of presentations on all things WAR. They got to see the latest on the Tome of Knowledge, Public Quests, Keeps & Seige, Capital Cities, and City Capture, as well as much more. Once you throw in all the interviews and the hands on WAR time to let them kill each other, you've got a whole lot of WAR to read about here. "Keep capture contributes to your side's overall control of a zone and these will probably be the RvR hotspots when the game goes live, which means this is where I'll be hanging out most of the time, trying to get a High Elf to hold still long enough for me to get a ballista shot off."

Just five days after the announcement of the Warhammer Online Collector's Edition, it has already moved to the top of Amazon.com video game sales charts for all formats, moving ahead of many big sellers. WAR is coming...

If you've visited Ten Ton Hammer recently, you've probably noticed that they have been taken over by WAR! They literally have so much new coverage that we don't even have the room to put all the links here. They have more than an hour of video footage and a heap of articles from their visit to the studio, and there's still more to come. There's tons of new coverage (pun intended) on Altdorf, the Inevitable City, crafting, trophies, and more, as well as updates on all the classics like the Tome of Knowledge. Here at Mythic, we always try to run things in true Warhammer fashion. So when IGN and Gamepy came to visit, was there really any other option than to pit people who were once cohorts against one another in a fight to the death? Nope.

"Last week, IGN and Gamespy had the rare privilege of heading out to Mythic to get our hands on the latest version of Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning and to go head-to-head in a fight between the forces of Order and Chaos. After limping away with all manor of cuts and bruises, and a few less teeth, IGN and Gamepy have come back with page upon page of WAR glory. For starters, there are hands on articles detailing both sides of the endless bloodshed and struggle for the Elven homelands of Ulthuan as well as tons of video interviews with Jeff and Paul. Recently, Jeff Hickman stopped by Singapore to spread WAR and gave a presentation to the press in Asia where he talked about...pretty much everything that makes WAR unique. These guys think WAR is awesome.

"Warhammer Online is shaping up to be a real contender in the never-ending war of the MMORPG's. Some of the features are outstanding, and thanks to EA's presentation we can really see what all the fuss is about!"

EA Mythic's own Creative Director Paul Barnett decided to stop by the LIFT conference in Switzerland to do what he loves most; talk to lots of people and hand out sunglasses. He breaks down what it is that he actually does and why MMOs are so awesome. Business week checked it out and they're in love.

"I don't want to crush too hard on Electronic Arts' (ERTS) Mythic Entertainment division, but Creative Director Paul Barnett's talk at the show about MMO's is one of the most non-geek accessible I've ever heard and it manages to smartly analogize the games industry to both films and Las Vegas without being heavy handed. It's also funny."

The Hickman and Josh Drescher were live on PWNED radio, a show on 97.1 The Ticket in Detroit. Apparently the show hosts got flooded with emails when they asked WAR fans to suggest questions. Awesome.

Garret Fuller from Ten Ton Hammer made his way to a recent EA event in NYC just to get some more time with the latest that WAR has to offer and to get a few of his burning questions answered. Lance Robertson and Josh Drescher happy to oblige, covering everything from keeps, cities, and open world RvR to working with the Warhammer IP. Oh yeah... Garret also got to watch players in beta beat the snot out of each other, which is always fun.

GameSpot came out to visit the studio so they could check out the latest WAR has to offer. They must have liked it because there's a ton of stuff for you to check out including, of course, more Paul Barnett. He always seems to make his way into a video or two...

"The team at EA Mythic spent all day showing off so many facets of the game, from the masteries for many of the character classes to the armor and dye permutations that let you customize your character, and much more. It was a lot to take in, but it underscores what a massive undertaking Warhammer Online is."

Wired.com's 2008 MMO round-up, Three New MMOs Challenge World of Warcraft in 2008, is live and they had good things to say about WAR.
